Notes
Which side to choose
When deciding which side to put the special boring, look at the direction the boring pattern letter points. A letter J points to the left, with the vertical bar on the right. A letter K points to the right with the vertical bar on the left. The direction the letter points is the side of the door which will receive the special boring. All side references (left/right) refer to when the door is facing you.
Center bores & 4th bores
When you specify a center bore, both sides of the door will receive a center bore.
When you specify a 4th bore, both sides of the door receive the 4th bore.
Non-standard placement
Standard placement for both J & K patterns is 3” from the top of the door and 3” from the bottom. When you specify a non-standard placement the location of the bore will be changed on both sides of the door. Any deviation from this should be specified in special instructions.
Ordering restrictions
- The J & K patterns should only be ordered with NOLP or NLND.
- They should not be ordered on doors with a fingerpull or back bevel.
- You may order them on doors with a back edge detail, but the side with the special boring must be no lip back edge detail.
- No Lip between pairs is OK.
- Aries and SL210/SL250 doors may not be available to order with this pattern because the edgebanding might tear out. We are currently testing this and will update as necessary.
- It is normal to order susan doors with no outside face edge detail where the two susan doors meet (square face or OE1). However, if you choose to have an outside face edge detail where the two doors meet, some profiles are not recommended because the hinge hardware may be visible from the face of the door.
- The example to the right is an OE10 on a ¾” door which has a 5/16” drop.
- These outside edge details are not recommended on ¾” doors: OE5, OE10, OE031, OE216, OE317, OE488, OE033
- The OE488 outside edge detail is not recommended on a 7/8” door.
